Track 8 - "STILL SINGLE AGAIN"

I was greeting a friend a couple of years ago and when he asked me how I was doing these words came out of my mouth. I think I realized immediately that it had all the earmarks of a country song and the chorus had written itself in my head within a day or so. I finished it off and sang it for a few people and got a good reaction so here it is.

Don't ask me how an out and out 50's style country tune fits with the reggae flavour of the song before it. But these songs all reflect different styles of music I have played and enjoyed so I just think of it as all 'me'.

Once again Murray 'tinkles the ivories' and Russ helps me with the vocal. Russ and Murray were both recorded in Toronto by my old pal David Baxter who is not only a brilliant guitar player but is winning accolades for his production skills, especially with Justin Rutledge and Treassa Levasseur. I met David in his home town of Ottawa in 1973 and then again in Toronto a couple of years later and it was his recommendation, along with Colin Linden's, which got me my audition with David Wilcox and resulted in me replacing Bax in the Teddybears in 1977. It's been a long road.

"STILL SINGLE AGAIN" lyrics

CHORUS
Still single again, just like I used to be
She's still seeing somebody, it just isn't me
I was 'the one,' now I'm just an old friend
Back where I started, still single again.

I saw magic in the way it started
To be with her it seemed my destiny
That was up until the day we parted
Then she gave me back my singularity

CHORUS
Still single again, just like I used to be
She's still seeing somebody, it just isn't me
I was 'the one,' now I'm just an old friend
Back where I started, still single again.

I still go out at night to socialize
Friends tell me she's been seen a time or two
I know by the way they don't look in my eyes
That she was on the arm of someone new

CHORUS
Still single again, just like I used to be
She's still seeing somebody, it just isn't me
I was 'the one,' now I'm just an old friend
Back where I started, still single again.
