Track 9 - "THICKER SKIN"

Written in an old blues form, this song came pouring out one morning shortly before the sessions for the cd. I originally thought it might be just end up as me and the resonator guitar but I sent it to David Wilcox as one of the tunes he might play on and he did the superbly understated electric tracks you hear on the cd.

The lyrics are once again about realizing a situation is not quite right for you ... but will you change it?

Nothing much else to say except that it seemed to work well on the guitar in the key of G and though it was a strain to sing it there I think that adds to the power of the vocal track.

"THICKER SKIN" lyrics

A thicker skin is what I need, a thicker skin is what I need
Your words would bounce right off of me, when you cut I wouldn't bleed
A thicker skin is what I need

I don't think you're destined to be mine. I don't think you're destined to be mine
All dressed up and looking fine, but you'll be headed down the line
I don't think you're destined to be mine

Far away is where I'll go, far away is where I'll go
Rain may fall and wind may blow, but I can cry and you won't know
Far away is where I'll go

I don't believe you love me anyway. I don't believe you love me anyway
I know you say you're mine today, before too long you'll go astray
I don't believe you love me anyway
